Shows and Tours

Shows

CP-NY’s premiere performances of the cast’s original musicals are significant community events where youth, parents, teachers, community leaders, and people from all walks of life gather to witness the culmination of the youths’ efforts.  They experience a work of theater that uses a broad spectrum of the performing arts to articulate the reality of young people’s lives in New York City and their vision for positive change.

Audience Members

One third of the performances are filled with teenagers from various schools in the five boroughs and participants of collaborating youth serving organizations.
Since the majority of CP-NY audiences have never been to the theater in their lives, the performances act not only as a vehicle for the CP-NY participants to be heard but also for much of their audiences to experience a new medium that is both powerful in its impact and thrilling in its artistic inspiration.

Audience Reaction

Evaluation of the CP-NY audiences has revealed overwhelmingly positive reaction to the shows and the youth. Audiences have consistently noted the high level of professionalism, artistic excellence, artistic and integral commitment to the performance and the issues addressed, entertainment and overall impact of the CP-NY shows.

Peer Education

Peer education also takes place with youth audiences who attend the show’s premiere. Being in the audience for these performances is profoundly important and impactful for these teenagers, giving them not only a rare opportunity to experience high-quality theater, but also by allowing them to witness other young people using their voices to create change.
