At the very heart of City at Peace are ordinary teenagers
achieving extraordinary things. Over the years in many shows, these
teenagers, working in collaboration with professional artists and
musicians, have created dozens of original musical compositions,
articulating the sometimes difficult reality they face and their
remarkable spirit for the future.
This year on one weekend, City at Peace
brought together a group of teenagers from City at Peace
programs in four different cities - New York, Los Angeles,
Charlotte, and Baton Rouge. They gathered together as a
national chorus to rehearse and record a compilation of
City at Peace songs from past shows. Each song comes from one
of the original musicals written and performed by City at Peace
teenagers over the last four years.
City at Peace now announces the release of these teenagers' work -
a CD of City at Peace music entitled City at Peace: Volume 1.
Each song on the CD comes from one of the original musicals created and performed
by City at Peace teenagers over the last four years. All of the lyrics were written by the youth
cast members themselves or come from their writings or ideas. The music and lyrics were finally
composed and arranged by professional artists.
Paul Griffin, Founder & President of City at Peace-National, is the
Executive Producer of the project. Gerald Trottman, former Musical Director of City at
Peace-New York and well-known composer and musician, is the Musical Director.
Mark Harder, formerly with the Hit Factory, is overseeing the production and mixing the songs.
All three have combined to produce the CD.
Like all of the shows that we create, the songs on this CD represent
the voices of our youth. They express the serious reality our teenagers face as well as
their aspirations for the future. Their aim is to send a much needed statement of hope
for our communities and our world. We hope you will listen to it, enjoy what you hear
and join us as we strive to build our cities at peace.
